Ministry of Encouragement

March 8, 2016 by Michael Coughlin

How well do you have to know someone before you can speak truth into their life? I had a phone call today with a testimony I wanted to share with you that helps answer that question.

But first, some background information is required.

Great article on the “controversial” subject of friendship or “pre-evangelism”. I particularly liked the point you made referring to Abraham and Hagar; I think that example could apply to other areas of the Christian life as well in terms of staying in God’s will- not just within the context of evangelism or family planning.

AFter reading your article, I still wonder if the Scripture supports both approaches to evangelism. When I talk to most Christians they are either only for sharing the Gospel in a confrontational way, or only sharing it over a cup of joe. If it is very words of Scripture themselves that causes a person to come to saving faith it begs the question; does it even matter what “approach” is “good, better, or best”? That is to say, is God capable of using any approach by which to directly or indirectly build a bridge to sharing the good news to all creation? Jude 1:23 comes to mind “save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment[g] stained by the flesh.”

Yes, brother, there are many ways to give the gospel to people. And, as long as we are giving the gospel, and honoring God in our hearts with our motives and reasons, there is no reason to abhor an approach.
